Each year the Will McLean Foundation sponsors the Best New Florida Song Contest. This competition, begun in 1992, has generated hundreds of outstanding songs about Florida.

Each person may submit up to three songs about the history, heritage, natural beauties or "critters" of Florida. Songs must be postmarked by within time limits of current contest rules.

Contrary to popular opinion, the State has a large and growing contingent of song writers and musicians who sing praises of Florida's flora, fauna, history and historical characters. They accentuate the degrading effects of uncaring businesses and individuals on Florida's beautiful, bountiful natural endowments. They encourage residents in appreciating, loving, and nurturing this state and her people.

Those who wish to enter need not be skilled musicians. There are songs in the hearts of everyone. The songs entered into the contest are not judged on the slickness of their presentation. However, a good recording showcases the song to best advantage.

Winning song writers are invited to perform at the annual Will McLean Music Festival Saturday, and Sunday, at the Sertoma Ranch near Dade City (map)just off 1-75 exit #60. All who enter the contest will have an opportunity to share their songs. The three winners will be presented on the main stage and will receive cash awards..

Song contest entrants are advised to follow the rules carefully.
